Why are my RPMs running high when I start to accelerate?

My 2005 Nissan Sentra runs great except when I start to accelerate to get speed, my rpms rev up and you can hear it. I try to coast as much as possible. I only drive no more then 5 miles a day no faster then 40 mph.

Can a 4.2 liter engine go to 60 mph?

The 4.2 has plenty of power to stay locked at 50 – 60 mph, even with the car full of family & stuff and even on slight inclines. Actually, on a few occasions I was amazed by how much “suffocating” the engine took before the computer decided it cannot go locked anymore.

Is it normal to have 400 ish RPMs?

I was told 400 ish rpms around 50 was normal. With cruise it doesn’t really seem to do it but just using the pedal does… Click to expand… Only if your TC is unlocked, which at 50 it should not be unless you’re towing or accelerating or going fast up a steep incline or something…

Why is my car revving at high RPMs?

But, to answer your question… No, a clogged fuel filter would not explain an engine that is revving at high RPMs without the car moving at an appropriate speed. The most likely explanation would be a failing transmission if it is of the automatic variety, or a slipping clutch if it has a manual transmission.

What does it mean when your engine revs up?

If your engine revs up as you press down on the accelerator but your vehicle doesn’t accelerate as per usual or as you would expect, it’s a troublesome sign that can lead to a full-blown transmission failure. What causes a car to over rev at 40 mph?

When it finally reaches 40 I up the gear to 4th. Thinking about it now the over revving seems to happen when i change gear. The car takes a good few seconds to gain any speed. I was wondering if there was a mechanic online who might have a rough idea of the cause.

What’s the difference between rpm rev and no acceleration?

RPM rev and no acceleration? I have a 2004 Hyundai Sonata with about 85,000 miles. For the past few weeks, when trying to accelerate, I press down steady on the gas pedal, and sometimes the car does not accelerate. Also, the RPMs rev very high from about 2 to sometimes 5,000 (all with no acceleration).
