I purchased a 2015 65 plate Ford Mondeo when it was seven months old. By the time it was 18 months old it only had 12k miles on the clock but needed new drive shafts and in addition the alloys were showing signs of deterioration and the rear brakes were pitted and scored to a level you would expect to see on a vehicle with 40k+ miles.
Are there any problems with the Ford Mondeo?
The LED adaptive headlights work really well (though they’re not as clever as the Audi matrix lights) and although the Sony 12-speaker stereo is pretty good it’s not as good as the Burmeister in the Merc, the bass is a little woolly and the treble gets a bit harsh as you crank up the volume. I’m sure most people would be happy with it.

Is there gearbox issue on 2012 Ford Mondeo?
Mate had a similar issue with his 2012 Mondeo Titanium TDCI. Had to have the gearbox replaced at a cost of $3500 for the box itself, plus towing to the Ford dealer (from his indie mech), and the Ford dealer wouldn’t even guarantee the repair. I was there when they said that (someone had to drop him off).

The main concern was the almost dangerous lag when trying to make a quick getaway from stopped. Mild acceleration, like from traffic lights, was fine, but if you needed to get moving a bit quicker, like trying to get into a gap in traffic from stopped, they were scary.

I have a 2012 diesel with the DCT. It’s done 180,000klm no issues with gearbox. They have to be serviced every 60,000klm . Make sure the one you buy has been serviced when due. They are not cheap to service but the excellent economy soon pays for that.
