If your car was built after April 1986 it must also have side-mounted indicator lights that function correctly and are in good repair. The light emitted from these units must be amber, either from the lens itself or from a yellow coloured bulb, fading of either type will result in a fail.
Do they check side lights on an MOT?
No you don’t! We do MOT’s are there is no stipulation or requirements for sidelights. Never had any in mine. What! of course you do, they are required to work with the ignition off (part of the mot test) and with the engine running.
Why are my back and side lights not working?
Just been told both my back lights are not illuminating. Brake lights still working. Also appears side lights at front are not coming on. Not sure if related. Looked at fuse/relay diagram but appears there isnt a seperate fuse for rear lights. Fuses are fine.

Check under the hood, under the dashboard, or near or in the glove compartment. Once you find the fuse box or boxes, remove the lid and check the diagram on the underside of the lid for a fuse labeled “dash lights” or just “lights.” Refer to your owner’s manual if you have trouble locating the fuse boxes or the dashboard light fuse.
