It’s very possible that when the struts were changed the tech did not properly seat the spring ends or perhaps the top part.

Where does the clunk come from on the front of a Silverado?

Exactly – that’s why I spent quite bit of effort looking at the front end parts (i.e. ball joints, bearings, bushings, tie-rods, etc.). Finally noticed that when I pushed the front end up and down while standing beside the vehicle, the noise was actually coming from behind the cab.

Is it annoying to come to a stop and feel the clunk?

As you know, it is extremely annoying to come to a stop and feel that Chevy patented clunk just like someone has just rear-ended you. Well, after several online posts, I finally decided to do my truck.

What causes a Silverado front end to clunk?

Turns out that the bushing at the end of the cross-member where the rear of the torsion bar mounts is loose (see photos). The torsion bar is firm in the cross-member, but there is alot of movement and knocking in the connection where the cross-member attaches to the frame. The cross-member moves up and down when I lift the vehicle from belos.

When does the clunk come back in my truck?

Enjoy your truck with extremely less of a clunk or eliminated for about 8-10 month. Repeat if the clunk come back. Last edited by starspangled6.0 on Feb 11 2012, 9:07pm, edited 1 time in total.
