What is a injector knock?

What is a injector knock?

Injector knock or fuel knock is the rapid or uneven burnig of fuel caused by one or more injectors that are not perfectly spot on. It typically is only heard at idle or light throttle applications. During light throttle the timing is advanced and that can increase the sound.

How to easily diagnose and fix engine knock?

In this video we go over what are some causes of engine knock or detonation, I will show you how you can diagnose the different causes that could be anything from, using the wrong octane fuel, lean air fuel mixture, bad knock sensor, wrong spark plugs and a bad EGR system among other things. Can a diesel injector cause a diesel knock?

If for some reason one injector gets stuck open or starts opening at a lower injection pressure it will advance the timing for that injector. Timing that is too far advanced will knock a lot more than is normal. Normal is subjective of course. The sound can change with the same timing depending on engine design.

Why does my injector knock a lot more than normal?

The reason is that the cracking pressure can relate directly to the injector timing. If for some reason one injector gets stuck open or starts opening at a lower injection pressure it will advance the timing for that injector. Timing that is too far advanced will knock a lot more than is normal. Normal is subjective of course.

Why does my car Keep Knocking on the engine?

Luckily, engine knock isn’t a frequent problem with modern cars, because the air/fuel ratio, fuel injectors and timing are all computer controlled. There’s even a knock sensor that’s designed to detect engine knock and tell the Engine Control Unit, so it can correct the problem automatically.

What to do if your diesel engine is making a knocking noise?

Nothing catastrophic can happen to your engine from this type of injector noise. In most cases, diesel purge will quiet all the noises related to your injectors and will soften up the knocking noise as well.

What causes a knock when fuel is squirted into an engine?

Injectors Squirt fuel in the cylinders which is mixed with air at aprixamatly 20:1 (more air than fuel) A knock is caused by pre-ignition, which is a timing issue. In older engines you turn the distributor back to where it just quits knocking.
