Why does my Ford backhoe not go forward?

I recently bought a ford 555 backhoe and the motor runs great but after it runs a few minutes it will not go forward but it will still move in reverse and all the hydraulics still work what causes this? and how much to fix it? first check the transmission and rear end fluid levels – probably just low from seal leakage.

john the 555 also will not shift at a high rpm with the hudraulic shuttle trans. If anyone is experiencing slow starter turnover , remove the ground cable from the starter and ground to THE FRAME. Ford’s grounding thru the starter does not work very well. sunshine

I went into the valve body that seats on top of the transmission hydraulic pump and replaced the springs and pins. Now the shuttle shift feels like it is more positively engaging forward or reverse and it would turn the wheels in forward but only with the outriggers down and then you could reach down and grab the wheels to stop them from spinning.
