Why does my Quadrajet not have enough power?
Why does my Quadrajet not have enough power?
Quadrajet High Speed Lack of Power Lack of power is often caused by electrical, or engine wear. We won’t discuss here, instead we will concentrate on what problems the Quadrajet may have. Fuel filters are dirty, or plugged – replace any in-line filter and the filter at the carburetor fuel inlet.
How do you adjust the carburetor on a Quadrajet?
Turn the screws and set them loose until they are bottomed out. Make sure that each screw is pushed downwards. Then secure these screws temporarily as you proceed to the next step. Have the engine run idling to warm up the motor. A running engine is needed to actually adjust the carburetor settings.
Where are the idle mixture screws located on a Quadrajet tips?
The holes in the baseplate where the idle mixture screws are located are called the idle discharge ports. These ports, together with the mixture screws, control how much fuel enters the engine at idle and won’t need alteration with a stock engine.
What do you need to know about my Quadrajet tips?
What you are trying to do here is get a part throttle that is crisp and responsive, without any surging or hesitation. This is not for performance, that is accomplished with the secondary side. You don’t want to go too far with this adjustment, because it will just waste gas. Also, if you must pass emissions testing, be real careful.

Where is the adjustment screw on a Quadrajet?
The carb in the picture should have a metal pin on the front of the power piston. The pin contacts an adjustment screw in the main casting. Most of the later metering rods have a tapered second step. By raising/lowering the adjustment screw you will have fine control of the part throttle mixtures.
Do you need a secondary choke on a Quadrajet?
The secondary choke pull-off is not needed. I would retain the primary pull-off and add an electric choke even if you are eliminating the shaft and flap. This will allow fast idle on cold start-ups and you won’t have to “feather” the throttle for 2-3 minutes till it will idle on it’s own.
What happens when the secondaries open on a Quadrajet?
Click to expand… If the secondaries open at 40mph, you will likely bog the engine because you need lots of rpms to handle the large secondaries of a quadrajet. You would have to be in low gear to survive the opening secondarys at 40mph.
