Is it normal for a diesel engine to make knocking noise?

Is it normal for a diesel engine to make knocking noise?

In my experience Dodge dealerships with *GOOD* diesel techs are a rare find. Working on diesels every day makes a difference, especially on making an engine noise diagnosis. If it is a “normal” noise, a good tech should be able to tell you exactly where it’s coming from and what component is causing it.

Why does my IDI engine make a loud knock?

It’s not normal knock – it’s pretty damn loud. I do appreciate a normal cold IDI diesel engine is noisy but this is +30% extra. It ‘seems’ to be coming from the engine rather than the pump – as if a pump setting/problem is causing the knock rather than anything physical within the pump. Hard to tell though.

What kind of noise does a diesel purge make?

They will tick, ping, rattle and they can even produce a snapping sound. Nothing catastrophic can happen to your engine from this type of injector noise. In most cases, diesel purge will quiet all the noises related to your injectors and will soften up the knocking noise as well.

Is there a TDC mark on a diesel knock?

Re: Diesel knock? Funny you mention clutch/flywheel and somehow the TDC mark is about 45 degrees away from actual TDC. Yes it IS a diesel flywheel and clutch. Re: Diesel knock?

Why does my diesel engine make a knocking noise?

Is the Cummins 6.7L engine still in production?

The engine continued in production until 2007 when it was retired for the 6.7L Cummins, primarily due to increased emissions regulations. The Cummins diesel engine is unique in the diesel truck world, as it is uses an inline design and only features 6 cylinders.

What causes an exhaust manifold to crack on a Cummins 5.9L?

While the block will only expand by a fraction of an inch, the constant expansion and contraction causes a lot of stress on the exhaust manifold. As a result, the manifold (also made of cast iron) can crack. When the manifold cracks air leaks out, pressure is lost, and the engine loses vacuum.
