What should I do about my South Bend clutch?

Resurface or replace the flywheel. Tighten pressure plate bolts in a “star” or criss-cross pattern, one turn at a time. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS WILL NEGATIVELY AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR CLUTCH AND MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY.

What happens when a clutch disc is worn out?

Slipping is common when a clutch disc is worn out. With the friction material almost worn away, the clutch disc has less surface with which to grip the flywheel and pressure plate, making it hard for the engine to transfer rotating power to the transmission.

How big are the bolts on a flywheel clutch?

Two 12mm bolts (13 FT-LBS) hold the slave cylinder to the tranny. The rod has pressure on it, so be careful when removing the bolts. With the slave cylinder removed, lay the cylinder on top of the valve cover or intake manifold to get it out of the way.

What to do if your car’s clutch is slipping?

Depress the clutch pedal. Shift into second or third gear and rev the engine to about 2500 rpm. Slowly release the clutch pedal. As the clutch engages the flywheel and pressure plate, the engine should stall. If the engine doesn’t stall, then the clutch is slipping. Watch the video below.

What should I do if my clutch fork is not engaged?

Use your flashlight to look up in the clutch area to see the position of the fork. If the fork is all the way engaged but the slave cylinder or cable is not engaged, then the clutch release bearing has failed or the clutch fork has broke.

What happens if the clutch is not locked up?

When the clutch is not locked up, the shoes slip against the drum causing tremendous heat which dries up the lubrication in the oil impregnated bushing. The tremendous amount of heat generated can also anneal the spring which is the heart of the clutch.

What kind of wrench do you need for centrifugal clutch?

Take an open-end wrench and a socket wrench (most likely a 9/16″) and loosen the four bolts- pull back the engine until you take up the slop in the chain. Tighten the bolts back again but make sure the two sprockets are perfectly aligned with each other.
