Why is fuel leaking from top of injector pump?

I was getting fuel leaking from where the throttle linkage attached to the top of the injector pump. Presumably from where the linkages enter the top of the pump housing. In trying to take off the linkages to see what I could find, the bolt holding the linkages to the pump sheared off.

Is the throttle linkage to the injector pump permanent?

Through some creative, but possibly not permanent, washer and spacer installation I was able to get the throttle links reattached to the pump housing – and it works. The reattachment also seemed to significantly slow/stop the fuel leak. But again, don’t know if it’s a permanent solution.

What happens if your fuel pump is failing?

The fuel pump feeds fuel to the engine at a reliable rate; without this pump, your fuel would just sit in your tank, useless and inert. If you’re attentive, you can catch the symptoms of a failing fuel pump and have it repaired or replaced before it leaves you stranded on the side of the road.

The closeup pic shows dark deposits, like you may find with a graphite seal, around where the shaft enters the pump housing. That may be what you are indicating, on the housing wearing down… not sure. How may I reach thepumpguysc? thanks,

What should I do if my fuel pump is leaking?

Examine all of the fuel connections and hoses for leaks or kinks. Loosen the fuel filter hose clamps and pull off the filter. You want to blow through both ends to look for obstructions. If the filter is good, reinstall it and tighten the clamps back up with your screwdriver.

What causes the fuel pump to stop working?

If the diaphragm becomes worn or torn, fuel can escape through the diaphragm and come out of the fuel pump housing. Eventually, these will fail completely, causing the engine to stop running. As the fuel pump produces less pressure, the engine fails to operate.
