How do you know if your air dryer is bad?
How do you know if your air dryer is bad?
8 Signs You Need to Replace or Repair Your Air Compressor or Air Dryer
- Your Compressor Won’t Start.
- Your Compressor Won’t Stop.
- You Hear Odd Noises From the Compressor.
- You Have Circuit Breaker Problems.
- Your Compressor Shakes or Makes Ticking Noises.
- Your System Blows Warm Air.
- You Find Moisture in or Around Your System.
Why is there oil in my air dryer?
There is oil from your air dryer because the air compressor is passing oil. It is not suppose to do that. Oil very quickly destroys the desiccant material inside the filter. Air compressors passing oil is a sign of either a restricted air intake, restricted oil return or simply worn out, or a combination.
Why do you need to drain the air tank regularly?
Why do you need to drain air tanks regularly? Compressed air in an air brake system usually contains a certain amount of water and compressor oil. The water and oil can damage the brakes if left to accumulate in the system. Tanks must be drained regularly to remove this build-up.
How do you maintain an air dryer?
5. Refrigerated Air Dryer
- A Basic PM should be completed every 1000 to 2000 hours. Test Drain Valve(s) and Clean Strainer(s), Blow out condenser coil(s), Check suction pressure.
- A Full PM should be completed ever 4000 hours or every 12 months. Test Drain Valve(s) and Clean Strainer(s), Blow out condenser coil(s),
Why does my air dryer Purg every 30 seconds?
Your intuition is probably right. I think it would be the unloaders. When the system reaches 120psi the governor allows system air to the air dryer to signal the purge and allows air to the unloaders. The unloaders will just hold the check valves off their seat in the compressor head to stop the air from being pushed out of the compressor.
Why is air coming out of my air dryer?
Air should keep coming out center port until pressure gets down to 90-100psi then quit leaking. If it does not start leaking out center port around 120psi the governor is bad. This is what it would look like. The truck isn’t here but will be this weekend. With the adis bendix the governor is right on the side of the air dryer.
What does 120psi mean on an air dryer?

The unloaders will just hold the check valves off their seat in the compressor head to stop the air from being pushed out of the compressor.
How can I tell if my dryer is leaking?
To test this you would need to apply shop air to the truck while it is not running so the governor is in cutout mode and is allowing air to the unloaders. If they are leaking you can usually hear or feel it blowing back out the intake of the compressor.
When to purge from the dryer air system?
The mechanic and the guy at the office both say it’s supposed to purge after it gets to 125 psi. Well no fuckin’ shit, but why would the compressor constantly be running when the tanks are full, or why would it keep cycling?
Is there a troubleshooting guide for an air dryer?
*This guide is only for vehicles that use desiccant air dryers. The guide consists of an introduction to air brake charging system components, a table showing recommended vehicle maintenance schedules, and a troubleshooting symptom and remedy section with tests to diagnose most charging system problems.

Why does my Meritor air dryer keep leaking air?
Here’s what I’ve found: Starting at zero psi, the system builds pressure fine and fairly quickly. The dryer cycles as it should per Meritor manual. After the system purges, there is a slow but steady air leak from the purge valve. Shut the truck off and it still leaks.
