Why does my Duramax engine still have coolant?
Why does my Duramax engine still have coolant?
I’m not loosing coolant and the engine seems to be running OK, it just seems unusual for the cooling system to remain pressurized for days after the engine was last started. It’s an ’01 Duramax with 75k on it with a new set of injectors just installed.
Is there pressure in the coolant reservoir even when engine is cold?
Pressure In Coolant Resovir, Even When Engine Is Cold??? Has anybody noticed pressure in the plastic jug coolant reservoir, even when the engine hasn’t been started for a few days?

What causes a Chevy 6.0 Vortec engine to leak?
They are subject to extremely high heat temperatures which can cause gaskets and bolts to warp and go bad, creating an exhaust leak. On the Chevy 6.0 vortec engine, the exhaust leak is most commonly caused by the exhaust manifold bolts completely breaking off. When the bolts break off, air gaps will open up causing exhaust gasses to escape.

What do you put on a GM coolant sensor?
Installation is the reverse of removal. If reusing the old sensor, coat the threads with GM sealant 12346004 or equivalent. New sensors are already coated; additional sealant is not needed. Tighten the sensor to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
Which is coolant bypass pipe for GM 6.6L Duramax?
The Dorman 902-901 Coolant Bypass Pipe for your 2001-2005 GM 6.6L Duramax is re-engineered to address the common failure points in the OE product. By replacing your stock clutch fan assembly with this dual electric fan system, you can increase your fuel economy by up to 6% and recover up to 27 HP!
Is there any pressure in the coolant reservoir?
IIRC it always did have a little pressure. When I had a head gasket leak it would pressurize the coolant reservoir till the overflow leaked when running . Especially at idle ! IMO, there probably should be some residual pressure in the cooling system if its in good working order.

What happens if the coolant cap is stuck?
If the cap is stuck, it will cause a collapsed hose when cool. If any doubt replace the cap. I don’t think you have a head gasket problem. The reason for the pressure– is to raise the boiling point of the coolant –to operate the engine at a higher temperature for emissions, engine life, and economy.
What happens to the head gasket on a Duramax?
Head Gaskets – As these truck reach the 100,000-150,000 miles we are seeing more and more head gasket issues. The Duramax has a multi-layer steel head gasket. When they have issues, they do not typically smoke out the exhaust or get coolant into the cylinders. What happens is the head lifts a little during the compression stroke.
What causes a fuel filter to leak on a Duramax?
Fuel Filter Housing Oring Leaks – The Duramax fuel system does not have any sort of low pressure fuel pump pushing fuel to the engine from the tank. The injection pump sucks all the fuel from the tank.
Where does the overflow tank come from in a car?
The overflow tank is also commonly referred to as an expansion tank, a coolant reservoir or an overflow canister. Regardless of what you call it, however, it is a part of every vehicle’s cooling system. The overflow tank is connected to an overflow tube that comes from the radiator.
How much pressure should I put on my coolant tank?
The cooling system runs up to 15 lbs of pressure– and should release any pressure over that. The cap also is suppose to let air back into the system as it cools off. If the cap is stuck, it will cause a collapsed hose when cool. If any doubt replace the cap.
What’s the pressure in the coolant system all the time?
Head gaskets are a trouble-spot on the 01’s, and CAP describes the symptoms of blown gaskets. 2004 duramax pressure in coolant system all the time run all day and use3-4 quarts antifreeze out the exhaust run great what now sell or have it fixed ?
Is there any residual pressure in the cooling system?
IMO, there probably should be some residual pressure in the cooling system if its in good working order. But, since its an 01, you might want to have the resivior cap pressure-checked. They do fail with time.
