Why does my 1999 IH dt466e keep dying?

Why does my 1999 IH dt466e keep dying?

I have a 1999 IH DT466E that will not stay running. It will start right up and then run from anywhere from 30 secs. to several minutes. It then dies, but will start back up and do the same thing. I have replaced the fuel filter on the drivers side, and the high pressure oil pump is also new last fall.

Where is the HPOP on a 1999 dt466e?

On the left side of the engine mounted on the back side of the front cover is the high pressure oil pump. Its also right above the air compressor ( if equipped) or ps pump. On the hpop there is a valve near the bottom of it.

What should off hand pressure be on DT466?

Off hand should take close to 600psi to start. also you can pull the valve cover and apply shop air pressure into the rail and look for air bypassing the injectors. Pretty common issue.:thumbsup

What do the 0-rings on a DT466 mean?

Looks like you need a set of injector 0-rings. those codes refer to loss of injection pressure. The long rail on the side of the head is the High pressure rail for the injectors. If you have a gauge that goes up to 1000psi or better you can tap into the pressure sensor port and check cranking pressure.

How does the high pressure oil pump work on a DT466?

The high pressure oil pump that operates the injectors is fed oil by the lube pump through a reservoir in the front gear cover. When you start a DT466E after an oil change it will start and run for a few seconds and quit then after a few seconds of cranking it will start again and run the oil pressure gauge will start to move at the same time.

What should off hand rpm be on DT466?

If it cranks don’t rev it unless you have a gauge to handle about 3000psi. Off hand should take close to 600psi to start. also you can pull the valve cover and apply shop air pressure into the rail and look for air bypassing the injectors.

What should psi be when cranking DT 466?

With the IPR valve DISconnected, I expect 200-500 PSI during cranking – exactly what you have. You CANNOT accurately check for power and ground in the IPR circuit with the thing unplugged – the circuit NEVER operates that way (unplugged). You need to check voltage TO the IPR valve with the connector plugged in.

Is the dt466e a lack of power?

The second you put it in gear it has no power. 20 mph top speed. Tested fuel pressure today at the filter. It is only reading 40 lbs at idle and it dips down to 34 or so when accelerating. I assume this is a fuel problem, but what is the problem and where do we start? Thanks in advance if anyone has done this one.

What makes a DT466 diesel truck go limp?

The engine is new, the injectors are all new, the MAP Sensor is new, the Baro Sensor is new, the Cam Sensor is new, the High Pressure Oil Pump is new, the fuel sensor and regulators are new, the computer is new. The truck will crank, and then go into a limp mode and blow tons of white smoke out of the stack. Any ideas would be appreciated.

What makes a 1999 dt466e engine shut down?

4. The only two sensors that will shut this engine down are the injection control pressure sensor and the cam sensor. To see if the ICP sensor is bad unplug it and run the engine. It will turn on the engine light but don’t worry about that. If it stays running replace the sensor.

What to do if your dt466e has no power?

3. get it hokked up to a prolink scan tool or any scan tool with the hd hook up, sweep the cam sensor and check memory codes, it might run with a bad sensor but it wont necessarily fire on all six, it might be missing on 1 or 2 cyl.

Is the DT466 loss of power a sudden death?

Oil spewed everywhere on I-95 but it still ran. It was like a sudden death either it just kept losing more and more power over like 5 football fields until it blew. But yeah, would love to get through tomorrow at least with this truck. usually you can hear a turbo spool up.

Where is the fuel pump on a DT-466?

I have a 2000 4700 DT-466, would what you call the fuel pump be the same thing they call the “high pressure pump” in the book that the lines from the filter go to??

Why is the dt466e International diesel no more?

The DT466E International diesel is no more mainly because it could not meet emission standards. It’s one engine that performed only as good as the oil pressure that supplied the HEUI (hydraulic electronic unit injectors).

How much horsepower does a 1999 International dt466e have?

Standard torque models of the 1999 DT466E offer power ranges of between 195 and 230 horsepower, with torque ratings advertised at 520 to 620 foot-pounds of torque. International also provided high-end torque models, producing 215 to 250 horsepower and 620 to 800 foot-pounds of torque. The aluminum pistons give the DT466E engine its life and power.

What kind of fuel pump is a DT466?

Well, the motor blew last year and I ended up getting a used DT466-C (UW1063149EN) put in the truck. The truck has been running fine since then….until yesterday.

Why does my dt466e diesel engine not start?

DT466E international diesel wont start… Will it stay running, after you ether it? Or does it just die out again? Do you have access to a scanner, any engine light on? Does the tach read while you are cranking? Can you use the hand primer on the filter base to try and prime system, if it does not get hard to pump you are most likely sucking air.

Why does my dt466e take so long to start?

The high psi oil system, in a dt466e you have high psi oil that fires the injectors, and sometimes the pump can actually bleed down overnight causing it to take forever to start, the only way to check that will be let it sit overnight and there is a temp sensor in the front cover/ drivers side . it is right in front of the oil/fuel pump.

What should fuel psi be on dt466e International diesel?

Usually when we get no start cold but fires and runs after using ether it might be injectors, but you need to do the fuel checks I posted and let me know. If you don’t have a fuel psi gauge, autozone loans them out. I like to have around 60psi I have seen them run ok above 45psi.

What makes a 2003 International 4300 sputter and Miss?

I have a 2003 International 4300 with a DT466. I just had all the O-rings on the injectors replaced along with the wiring harness that goes to the injectors. Now once the truck gets up to running temp it starts to sputter/miss. Truck runs GREAT cold but once warm gets worse.

How often does a DT466 give up the ghost?

The only difference betwene the two is how light your pocket will be. If its not the issue youre only out 25 or 30 bucks. Had mine go a couple times they usualy give up the ghost every 50,000 to 100,000 as long as you dont run too hot and driving conditions.

How old was Miranda Gaddis-ThoughtCo when she disappeared?

Ashley and Miranda were close in age, involved in similar activities, looked remarkably similar to each other—and most importantly, both girls disappeared on their way to the bus stop. On August 13, 2002, Ward Weaver’s son contacted 911 to report that his father had attempted to rape his 19-year-old girlfriend.

Why does my dt466e have no oil pressure?

Pulled the tube and checked it. It was fine. Pulled the engine oil pump (on crank) and it looks worn. Light grooving and some wear on the gear lobes in the pump. Leaning towards that being it. With it not filling the front cover i don’t think it’s the pressure Reg but i could be wrong.

Where is the ICP sensor on the dt466e?

The ICP sensor is a three wire sensor located on the fuel/hp oil rail on the left side of the head. Its just about in the center of the rail just to the right of the hose from the hpop. Bad cam sensor or the positive wire (battery feed) on the key switch is burnt and loosing connection. Would be my first guess.

What’s the trouble code for a 1995 dt466e?

That is good for 1995-1999 DT466E engines. Good Day! I’ll sticky this for you guys…. I can also post the newer engine DTC lists if you would like. If you could post the trouble codes for the later DT466E i would appreciate it. I have ordered the Intl. CD Manual but would like to start on the codes in my 2002 truck.

What causes low fuel pressure on international dt466e?

A fuel filter or clogged fuel strainer could cause high restriction and low fuel pressure because of dirt or fuel jelling in cold ambient temperatures. — Replace fuel filter, clean strainer and re-test. Debris in the fuel regulator valve will cause low fuel pressure.–Refer to Test 2B.
