Why are the blades not spinning on my snowblower?
Why are the blades not spinning on my snowblower?
A broken shear pin is the most common reason the snowblower auger won’t turn properly so replace any broken shear pins. Worn or loose belts also prevent the snowblower auger from spinning. Check and adjust the belts and replace any broken or worn belts when you see the snowblower auger not turning.
How do you know if a shear pin is broken on a snowblower?
When it’s safe, visually inspect the augers. If you don’t see the shear pin head or nut and you can manually spin the auger along the auger shaft, you broke a shear pin.
Why does my snowblower keep dying?
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the snowblower for a long period of time. If the fuel cap vent is clogged, air won’t be able to enter the tank and a vacuum or “vapor lock” will occur. This stops the flow of fuel to the carburetor causing the engine to stall.
Should my snowblower auger spin freely?
You may have broken a sheer pin. Most two stage snowblowers have two auger blades, each pushes snow into the middle. If your auger is spinning freely, the shear pins have sheared or they have fallen out.
How tight should a shear bolt be?
It should be a locking type nut and all you need to do is snug it down to where it contacts the auger sleeve and stop there. Don’t snug it down to where the spindle turns with the shaft. If you do you’ll defeat the purpose of the shear pin.
How tight should snowblower shear pins be?
You want it tight enough to keep the2 parts from moving back and forth. But not so tight as to keep them from ever moving! Probably 20-30 ft-lb.
What causes a snowblower shear pin to break?
Shear pins fasten the augers to their drive shaft. They’re designed to break if the auger hits a large foreign object or hard-packed snow, to protect the motor and transmission from damage. The auger won’t turn if the shear pin isn’t intact, so replace it if it breaks.
When to replace the auger blades on a snowblower?
Replace the auger blades if damaged after hitting a large object that breaks the shear pins. Inspect the auger blades regularly and replace the auger if you find bent or damaged auger blades.
Why does my snow blower not turn on?
When the auger won’t engage, the cause is often a damaged, worn, or broken auger drive cable. Inspect the cable and replace it if it’s worn or damaged. If your snowblower auger isn’t turning, it’s possible the auger drive cable is damaged or broken.
What kind of shear pins are on a land pride snowblower?
The Land Pride rear blower I picked up has a PTO your shear bolt 8.8 grade metric and a grade 2 , 1/4 bolt for the auger. When I bought it the owner never noticed one of the aguger paddles was bent/ torn back. I had to heat it up ,bend it back and weld it. He never sheared a bolt.

Why are the blades on my snow blower not turning?
One of the augers (snow chewing blades) on my snow thrower was not moving. So it was pushing more snow than it was throwing. After stopping it, I found a bolt that locks the auger to the rotating axle was missing. It is a shear bolt, so likely the bolt sheared off at some point. I show how to replace the shear bolt.
What causes a snowblower auger to not turn?
In both cases, adjust the auger drive cable so it starts and stop the auger correctly. Hitting rocks or other foreign objects hidden beneath the snow damages the auger. Broken or bent auger blades won’t move snow into the impeller and out through the discharge chute.
