What does it mean when your outboard motor smokes?
When the oil is burned it will give off this blueish or even a grayish tint to it. Note that the gray color can also be part of the white smoke. White Smoke indicates water or vapor. White smoke is usually not a good thing but it doesn’t always necessarily mean there is something to worry about, (we’ll talk about it in a minute!)
Why does my outboard motor smoke when I start it up?
A common reason is that if you leave the outboard tilted down after running it, there can be oil build up in the cylinders. Which, as the engine sits, it can leak down into the cylinder and then, when you start it up, you will see smoke! Just trim the engine up to about a 45 Degree angle and let it sit for awhile. That should resolve the smoking.

Which is better The DD16 or the ISX?
I run 7-9 axle lowbeds with a lot of off highway/steep grades and we never get good fuel mileage but when running the dd15 side by side with 2 c15/550’s and a c16/600, the detroit will do +10% better, pulling same weights at the same speed. Jake holds better on the detroit too. If the dd16 will come close I will be a happy camper.
