318`s were really not built around performance, most are lo-po 2 barrel engines while 340`s (68-71) came with 10.5 to 1 compression, windage trays, forged steel cranks, double roller timing chains, 2.02 intake valves, 3/4 cams, HD valve springs, and dual plane intakes.
Can a 340 head be used on a 318?

Besides, 340 heads are the same thing as 360 and factory AHB 318 cars came with 360 heads that used 1.88″ intake valves.

The 360 Magnum heads are good heads and less pricey that 340 heads. They may be a lot of head for the 318 but given that the other components are up the task they would make a real improvement. I agree that the heads you have now are good enough to be going along with, and your money can be better spent elsewhere.
