Can you use Dexron VI with earlier fluids?
Can you use Dexron VI with earlier fluids?
IMPORTANT: As with previous upgrades, DEXRON-VI fluids are designed to be backward compatible with earlier transmission hardware. But more important, earlier type fluids are NOT FORWARD COMPATIBLE with transmissions that were designed to use DEXRON-VI.
Can you use Mercon and merconv all in one fluid?
Last I knew, Ford was warning against the use of a Mercon/MerconV all in one fluid. FWIW, I did use AAMCO in mine which is both, and didn’t have a problem. edit: if you have the 5.4 engine, you may have a 4r100 tranny. Mercon V cannot be used in this tranny.
What happens if Mercon V is added to transmission?
What would happen if Mercon V was added to a transmission that was half full of Mercon, if the transmission could use either fluid? I have a sneaking suspicion (but can’t prove) that my ’97 Expedition’s tranny had approx. 6 qt’s (from what I remember the work order said) of Mercon V added to it when Ford did some work on it in ’02.
When did Ford start using Mercon V instead of Mercon?
Did you still have the factory fill when this work was done? (this tranny should have the fluid changed every 30,000 miles due to a poor design. Mercon V was designed as a bandaid for this tranny) Assuming that the fluid was changed before it probably got a refill of Mercon V. IIRC, Ford started to use MerconV instead of Mercon in ’99.
What kind of fluid is DEXRON or Mercon?
Supertech has one and it’s Dexron Approved. If this was a GM Dealer, I doubt they would put the pure Mercon V fluid. Vavoline Maxlife ATF is also one of those crazy Mercon, V, LV and Dextron II, III, VI fluids among others all in one fluid.
Is the Mercon formula the same as Ford fluid?
MERCON is everywhere. Almost all other than Ford fluid in the store says DEX/MERC which is basically the old formula.
Which is better Dexron VI or Mercon V?
Maybe they used one of those Dexron VI/Mercon V blends. Supertech has one and it’s Dexron Approved. If this was a GM Dealer, I doubt they would put the pure Mercon V fluid.
Can you use Mercon fluid in a six speed transmission?
It is not compatible with earlier Mercon fluids, so it should not be substituted or mixed with Mercon or Mercon V. This fluid meets the General Motors Dexron VI specification and should be recommended for General Motors six speed transmissions requiring this specification.
