When do I need regeneration on my Dodge Ram?

When do I need regeneration on my Dodge Ram?

Discussion in ‘ 6.7 Common Rail ‘ started by baff, May 23, 2012 . I’m in process of getting 2011 2500 6.7 CTD. I’ve read a bunch of articles and forum threads on (exhaust) regeneration. But, what is it ? Do I need to replace/service/flush anything ? Is it expensive ? Some articles say you need to drive it to flush it, what does it all mean.

What makes a Cummins engine go into regeneration?

Unlike powerstroke and duramax, which use a DEF system, cummins dont need any extra fluid for their systems. The filter takes the particulate out of the exhaust. As the filter fills up with particulate it needs to go into regeneration before it gets full.

How can I tell if my Dodge Ram is in Regen mode?

Unless you have something to read the ECM for turbo and exhaust temps, you won’t know if the truck is in a regen. When in regen, the turbo and DPF temps are usually in 1000°F – 1200°F range. If your towing, it’s possible that the DPF will stay hot enough that it doesn’t need to do an active regen.

Is the Dodge Ram 3500 Heavy Duty still in production?

That is a 2007-09 vintage. It was in 2007 that Dodge started to use the smaller/more compact Ram 3500 Heavy Duty badge. 2006 still had the “Ram 3500” in the large, silver, letters on the driver and passgenger doors. @Eblue: you are right about the tail lights however.
