Why does my truck click once when I try to start it?

A rapid clicking noise when trying to start your car could mean there’s something wrong within the electrical system. Perhaps your battery’s dead, or your alternator, which charges the battery, isn’t working correctly. You may need to replace your alternator or battery.

Why does my Ram 1500 not start up?

Turn the key, gauges radio everything but the starter comes on. The trick I found I’d if I hold the ignition switch to the starting position, 15, 30, a minute, sometimes longer, it’ll finally crank over and start. Not sure what’s causing this.

What to do if your truck won’t start?

These trucks are notorious for ignition switches!! If it’s a bad starter though, you can turn and hold the key in the “start” position, while someone gives the starter a “whack” with a blunt object! It may start, if it does start, you will know that the starter is kapoot!

Are there any problems with the Dodge Ram 1500?

Definitely not the starter.. Known to be problems with these Ram 1500 are faulty ignition switches that burn out but not completely so they work intermediately. if you have enough juice in your battery to run all your lights and accessories then the starter would make at least a half-assed attempt..

Why does my Cummins engine make clicking noises?

If the voltmeter doesn’t show any voltage it means that the relay is not working. This could be a faulty relay or wiring to it from the start button. Check for dirty connections on the copper link from the solenoid output stud to the starter fields. I have also seen this link break on Cummins engines.

Press the start button and see if the voltage drops. If the starter doesn’t work, but the voltage drops substantially you have problems in the main battery cables, isolation switch, or batteries. If the voltage doesn’t drop by much, move the positive voltmeter lead to the solenoid energising wire. Press the start button again.
