What should the pressure be on the lift pump?

What should the pressure be on the lift pump?

If you have a pressure gauge you should get 8psi, (after the filter) which is over the 4psi minimum. In 15 seconds it should pump out about 16oz, but at least the 8oz minimum. If you get a good stream of fuel coming out of the fuel filter line which goes to the injection pump you are probably ok.

What to do when your lift pump is not working?

1. Unplug the two wire connector for the fuel pump. 2. With a voltmeter connected to the two pins on the supply (truck) side, turn the key to crank. If you read 12V then the supply side fuse and fuel pump relay are OK. 3. Next start the engine cold.

What’s the pressure on a Cummins lift pump?

The factory lift pumps on the 2003-2007 Cummins produce a dismal 10-11.5 PSI at idle. But unfortunately, due to these pumps’ inability to actually produce volume, the pressure drops off considerably as load increases.

Are there any problems with a Dodge lift pump?

But Tyler, I checked that and everyone knows that Dodge lift pumps are sub-par at best. Stay with me here, we are graduating to the high pressure side of the fuel system now. One of the most common problems I see on common rail Cummins, is the pressure relief valve, or PRV for short.

What kind of pressure does a lift pump need?

The job of a lift pump is to supply low pressure fuel (from the tank) to the injection pump on the engine. Most lift pumps, aftermarket or OEM, provide between 8-to-15 psi worth of supply pressure (aside from the 7.3L, 6.0L and 6.7L Power Stroke engines, which call for 45-to-65 psi).

What happens if the lift pump on a VP44 fails?

Being that the VP44 relies on adequate fuel supply pressure and volume in order to operate, lubricate and keep it cool, a failing lift pump can spell disaster. Unfortunately, lift pump failure runs rampant on ’98.5-’02 Dodges.
