OBD-II Code P0072 is defined as a Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Low. The ambient temperature sensor helps the engine control module (PCM) determine how much fuel to use on startup. The PCM also uses this signal as a logic reference for other temperature sensors on the engine.

P0072-Ambient Air temperature sensor circuit low – The PCM detects that the Ambient Air Temperature sensor input voltage is below 0.27 volts for 3.84 seconds. When monitored with the ignition on, battery voltage greater than 10.4 volts. Default action the MIL light will illuminate.

If the P0072 code does return, we will need to test the AAT sensor and its associated circuits. Typically, there are 2 wires at the AAT sensor. With the ignition switch off, disconnect the harness going to the AAT sensor. Turn the ignition switch on.
