Why do I need to replace battery cable terminals?

I also plan on acid etching the ends of the factory cables, crimping, fluxing, soldering and sealing the ends. Reason for replacing the terminals is the passenger side ones were both torn near the bolts when I bought the truck and even after replacing all the bolts they still don’t tighten properly.
