Why is my car stalling when AC is on?

Why is my car stalling when AC is on?

Like many parts of your vehicle, the air conditioning system takes its power from the engine. If not working properly, the engine may not cope with the loads produced by various systems in the car. More specifically, it may be too low to run the A/C and hence it stalls when turned on.

Why does my engine die every time I Turn on the AC?

Get your ac checked out. It’s likely a bad compressor and not likely any wrong with the engine. Some loading is normal but your PCM will adjust accordingly. However, when it completely dies (usually rather quickly) at idle, the usual culprit is that the compressor has seized.

When does the car idle, the engine dies?

Car idle sputters and engine dies when AC clutch engages When a/c is turned on, and car is at idle or in motion, the engine sputters and dies when the a/c clutch engages and rpms are increased. The a/c compressor clutch intermittently engages and disengages, I don’t know if this is normal for make and model for my vehicle.

Why does the engine stall when the a / C is on?

Normally, the PCM should increase the idle speed to compensate for the added load on the engine when the A/C is on. But if the A/C signal fails to reach the PCM because of a communications glitch between the A/C module and PCM, the PCM may fail to increase idle speed causing the engine to lug or stall.

What causes intermittent stalling in a car engine?

More Causes. One of the more unusual causes of intermittent stalling we’ve heard about is a defective vehicle speed sensor. When the vehicle stops moving, the PCM may not engage the idle speed motor (carbureted engines) or idle air bypass motor (fuel injected engines) so the engine will idle normally.

When does the a / C stop working in a car?

A/C quits working when engine is under load. When accelerating, my A/C stops blowing and only sometimes resumes blowing when a fairly low speed is attained. At highway speeds, it practically never runs.

What causes an engine to die while driving?

On deceleration, engine rpms may fall below normal idle speed and stall. When reaching a stop light, the engine may jerk and die. While driving, the engine may suddenly shut off.

Why does my AC shut off when I Turn Off the engine?

When the load or the throttle position reaches a predetermined point the AC compressor will automatically shut off until the load or the throttle backs off then it will kick back in.” Is there a way to easily do this? The ECM will need to be programmed to disable the AC system cutout.
