Why did my timing chain fall off my Dodge Ram?
Discussion in ‘ Engine & Performance ‘ started by Propanedr, May 11, 2019 . So im tearing my engine down to replace a bad cam and lifters. Ive read through the guide on here several times. While trying to keep my timing chain tight i accidentally dropped it and it fell off the lower gear.
Which is the correct timing mark for a Dodge Ram?
The correct way is the double marks at 12:00 and single mark at 6:00. Next make sure you torque down the cam bolt. This was one of my many mistakes. If you forget to torque down the cam bolt, the cam phaser will slip and shear off the cam dowel pin.
How do you get timing chain on Crank sprockets?
If you loosen up the timing chain guide (right side when you’re facing the engine) by removing the top bolt you can pretty quickly get the chain on the cam and crank sprockets, bring the guide back in to put some tension on it and hold it, then release the tension on the tensioner, and it’ll be lined up.
How often do gears line up on a Dodge Ram?
The amount of gears/teeth and ratio are different on the crank and cam gears, so they only line up once in MANY revolutions.

What can I do about the ticking sound in my Dodge Ram?
The best way is to go underneath hood and leave the recording device for like 2 minutes each side of engine. Read the redline oil sig in my thread, note the poll. You might try 15 ounces lubegard biotech added to current oil to see if you get any relief. A majority of ticks are cleared up with swapping to ester/pao high moly based oils.
Why does my Dodge Ram make a ticking noise?
Some have even said they heard the “tick” and later, one of the rockers failed; this of coarse damage the head. And yet others have said they have been told by Dodge tech’s, it’s the timing chain tensioner causing the noise. The timing chain tensioner needs to pump up oil pressure upon startup and that it was a common issue.
