Why does my AC clutch not turn off?
Why does my AC clutch not turn off?
Under the hood, I took out the A/C Relay fuse and jumper a wire from one prong to another and the AC clutch engages right away but it won’t turn off (because the wire is not a relay) I replaced the relay with a new one bought from Autozone and it still doesn’t work.
When to move on to the clutch relay?
Move on to the clutch relay if the fuse turns out fine. In a few car models, the power of the air conditioning system flows from the AC switch to the fuse before being transmitted to the clutch oil through the low-pressure evaporator temperature. You have to make sure that the compressor has enough oil to function properly.
What are the symptoms of a bad AC relay?
One of the most obvious signs that the AC relay may have a problem is that the compressor is not coming on at all. In most cases, when the AC is turned on you will be able to hear the compressor switch on. It will usually produce a familiar clicking noise from the clutch being activated. One may also ask, what causes AC relay failure?
What is the relay for an air conditioner?
The air conditioner (A/C) relay, is a relay used to send electrical power to the air conditioning compressor, and air conditioning compressor clutch when the system is turned on. It operates just like any other relay, and is often controlled by a button labeled ‘A/C’. What happens when a relay goes bad?

Why does my AC stop blowing cold air?
Have the same problem since a couple of years..Went to a couple of mechanics..The first one (2011) said there was no leak in the system but the compressor was not getting power..He did top up the system with refrigerant (just in case) and the ac started blowing cold air for a while (may be 2 hrs) but then it stopped…
How can I tell if my Clutch is working or not?
EDIT: Clutch does NOT engage. Doesnt even move. See if the clutch is getting power. The most accurate/foolproof way to check is to take off the passenger tire, move the splash shield near the compressor, and stick the positive lead of a multimeter into the connector of the only wire coming out of the compressor and grounding the other lead.
What does it mean when your a / C stops working?
It just seems way too coincidental that your A/C took a serious crap when you were working so close to the electronics. See if the clutch is getting power.
Why is my a / C system leaking all over the place?
The system shouldn’t be leaking out all over the place if it’s in operating order. The A/C system is supposed to be sealed, and if you overfill it…it won’t work either. You can try and bypass the pressure switch with a wire, if it turns the compressor on… well you have an issue with pressure (either the switch or too high or low pressure).
Why is my 2003 air conditioner not working?
Owners of 2003’s may comment about poor A/C performance after they have pressed the A/C button and see what appears to be the snowflake illuminated on the display. What has actually happened, though, is that they have disabled the operation of the A/C compressor and the snowflake symbol, upon closer inspection, has a slash through it.

How do I know if my AC clutch relay is bad?
AC compressor intermittent operation causing weakened or intermittent cooling performance. If you are experiencing issues with your AC system and suspect that your AC relay has either failed or is beginning to fail, we recommend having it diagnosed by a professional technician.
Why does my AC stop working when I jump the relay?
A few hours later my dumb self decided to try to add a little oil thru the low side and it wouldn’t take much (my guess is because it was under pressure). After that ac stopped working again since neither the compressor nor fan come on, only when i take the relay out and start jumping with a wire.
Is the AC clutch part of the air conditioner?
The AC clutch is a part of the AC compressor, the heart of the Air conditioning system. Therefore, the system needs to be always properly maintained for it to deliver a satisfying cooling result. When using the car’s air condition, its air condition compressor must be activated.
How does the a / C CLUTCH relay work in a car?
The air conditioning clutch relay transfers power, like a switch, from the interior A/C controls of an automobile to the A/C compressor, engaging the compressor clutch. Checking an A/C clutch relay is a process of eliminating possible connection failures. While performing the checks,…

How to check the clutch on an air conditioner?
How Do I Check an AC Clutch Relay? 1 Locate the Relay. Locate the air conditioner clutch relay by tracing the wire connection from the air conditioner compressor plug-in to the relay. In 2 Check Function. 3 Bypass the Relay.
How does a closed AC clutch relay work?
When you energize the relay, the contacts close, completing the high amperage circuit. Normally-closed contact relays work the opposite way: The contacts are closed when the relay is de-energized. Energizing the control circuit in the relay opens the contacts, shutting off the current in the load circuit.
How to know if the fan clutch is on or off?
There is several of these normally closed switches on the a/c and temp sensor and then there is the solenoid itself the one that gives air pressure to the fan clutch. The simple way to start is just to jump these switches to check them and hot wire the air solenoid to see if it turns on and off. This is the easiest way to eliminate these things.
When to turn on the cooling fan relay?
The relay will usually be activated once it is detected that the vehicle’s temperature approaches excessively high temperatures. Usually a faulty cooling fan relay will produce a few symptoms that can alert the driver that service may be required.
