It’s probably a pinion bearing. My 94 Dakota has a whirrling sound that is coming from a bad bearing in the rear diff. Even though the sound is coming from the rear diff, it does sound like its coming from the front diff.
Is there a problem with my Dodge Dakota?
The rear end has been serviced as recommended by Dodge. I’ve got great pictures of parts in the bottom of the rear end when the rear cover was pulled. PS: Dodge would not pay one cent of the costs. Yeah, unfortunately not an uncommon problem with the American Axle supplied rears.

Today I thought I had a bad ground wire from the Battery so I replaced it and after I started the truck and went to the fender to listen to the engine ( about 10 seconds ) The engine died again. How often does a Dodge Dakota engine die?
It has been very sporatic and at various speeds. Some days it runs ok and others it dies several times a day.Coil has been changed, fuel pump, fuel filter battery, Spark plugs, Complete tune up and The Air intake gone over and cleaned by professionals.
