Is a CV axle supposed to be loose?

Is a CV axle supposed to be loose?

If you are talking ‘straight off’ the car, they will probably feel pretty loose. At a minimum, they should be disassembled, inspected and greased/reassembled. On the inspection you are looking for pits and wear.

What does it mean when Cv axle falls off?

Hey troops. The re-manufactured CV axle that the dealer replaced (passenger side) fell off the stub shaft that sticks out of the front diff. Dealer reinstalled and I don’t think it’s correct. They said a clip failed.

Can a CV axle be removed from a stub shaft?

Assuming that you can remove the CV axle, and the stub shaft stays attached to the axle (it has the two times I’ve done it on my car), then you shouldn’t need any special tools to remove and replace the large main seal that is pressed into the case.

Where is the CV axle on a Ram 1500?

With out pulling your wheel bearing, it should be impossible for it to come out. The clip is on the splined area of the output shaft coming out of the diff and the CV axle is pushed on and over the clip to hold the axle on the output shaft.

How big is the inner stub shaft on a Malibu?

I am replacing the passenger side drive shaft on a 2002 Malibu. The new axle came with the inner/outer cv joints, as expected. But, when i removed the old axle there is a short 6-8″ section on the transaxle end of the axle that DID NOT come with the new part.

Why is my CV axle loose at the output shaft?

I’ve been experiencing a vibration in the front end, so upon further inspection, we discovered the front passenger side axle is very loose at the output shaft of the differential. The other is kind of loose. I replaced the passenger side and that didn’t fix the problem. It’s still very loose. Is this a clip issue?

How do you get stubs out of CV axles?

The stubs are retained by a clip- just like the CV end. You do not have to take off the diff cover. They are very hard to get out if you don’t have the “special tool”. This tool goes around the stub, attaching to the clip groove, then you use a slide hammer to pop it out.

How does the passenger side stub shaft work?

I opted for the latter after I took my passenger side off and saw how ridiculously simple it is. Unlike the driver side stub shaft, which you can just pull out with a few taps of a rubber mallet to help, the passenger side is retained in the housing with an internal snap ring that rides against a bearing mounted on the shaft.
