Is the cam sensor the same as the crank sensor?

Is the cam sensor the same as the crank sensor?

To further muddy the waters, many modern V-engines have more than one cam position sensor. If your scan tool or mechanic says that either crank or cam sensor needs to be replaced they are talking about explicitly different parts at different locations in your engine. It is not the same as far as I know, but working on same principle.

How do you replace a crank position sensor?

Compare the old sensor to the new one to ensure a correct fit. The crank sensor might have a separate O-ring. Install the new O-ring on the new sensor. Place the new sensor in its socket. Reinstall the mounting screws and torque to around 15 to 20 ft-lbs. Reinstall the electrical connector.

What happens to the crank sensor on a GMC?

The crankshaft sensor on GMC vehicles is synced to the powertrain control module, or PCM. When the crank sensor is replaced, it must be resynced to the PCM. Without resyncing, the PCM cannot properly determine the position of the crankshaft.

How are engine speed sensors and crank position sensors used?

As soon as the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor observes the change in the position of shafts they send signals to Engine Control Unit. And then ECU commands the fuel injectors and Ignition coil to function as per engine timing which starts the engine.

It expects the cam sensor to send signal pulses in time with the crankshaft sensor so the proper cylinders get spark and fuel at the correct time. Your cam sensor is in the distributor and changing it does not require a relearn as it is a different style sensor than the crank sensor.

Is it possible to switch from crank to Cam?

a car manufacturer can switch from crank to cam or vice versa over the years and it’s often possible to combine heads/blocks from different years, so you can end up with a car that has both sensors. For example, putting the head from cam angle sensor engine on a crank angle sensor block and then hooking up whichever sensor the car’s ECU uses

How do you install a new crank sensor?

You can spray cleaner on the shop towel to aid the cleaning process. Position the new crank sensor squarely into the sensor port hole and firmly push it into place. Then insert the mounting bolt and thread it in by hand by turning it clockwise to avoid cross threading.

Is the crankshaft position sensor reprogramed also?

A dealer is not the only place that can do a re-learn, pretty much any good shop with a bi-directional scan tool can handle it as it is a very common item to be done, even for some diagnostic work. helpful? Is it the same with the cam position sensor also?
