Do STI levers wear out?
Do STI levers wear out?
Normal wear and tear doesn’t usually do too much to shifters… Shifters do wear out and unlike Campy, ShimaNO shifters can’t be rebuilt and have to replaced once they’re gone. But if you should get a million or so shifts out of them before this happens.
What should I do if my shifter is not working?
You probably need to check that the shifter is working properly, then set up the derailleur. The problem might be that the cable head is not quite seated in the shifter. Disconnect the cable from the derailleur. Find a place to grab the cable where it is exposed – the downtube is usually a good spot.
What does it mean when your shift key is not working?
When other keys together with the shift key just refuse to work, know it is an indication that the shift key has a problem. In most cases, these keys become sticky and stuck at one point. Again, it is not easy to approach the entire troubleshooting procedure if it is only some keys that are not being recognized especially by your operating system.
Why does my Shimano grip shifter not shift?
At 1 and 2 I do feel a change and it is difficult to shift to those positions. It’s a shimano grip shifter. I’m following Park Tools “How to adjust a derailleur” but am hitting a problem shifting from 5 to 4. It doesn’t shift and no amount of rotations of the barrel adjuster seems to resolve.
How can you tell when a gear shift is done?
Tension the cable manually and work the shifter, you should feel it moving the cable for all gear shifts. If it’s hard to feel the cable moving, stick a ‘flag’ of tape on it and a marker of tape on the frame so you can see the relative movement.

Can a broken shifter cable cause a car to not go into gear?
If your car doesn’t seem to want to go into gear at all, it might not be a faulty transmission – It could just be a broken shifter cable. If the cable is broken, you’ll be able to move the shifter into any position, but the transmission will stay in the same gear.
