Why does my Mazda 323 have a flashing orange hold light?
Recently my car’s dash has been displaying a flashing orange “HOLD”. It doesn’t happen all the time (twice in the last 2 or 3 weeks that I can think of) and the length of time it stays on for varies as well. I’ve checked Google for a bit of info, and I understand its a problem with the transmission, though I can’t get much more than that.

Where is the hold button on a Mazda 323?
The “Hold” you are referring to is in regard to the Overdrive/top gear lockout. The button located on your gear lever just below the “T” This button is for holding 3rd gear when going up steep hills etc. I just verified this with our Astina. So, it’s probably just a loose wire. Why is my hold light flashing on my car?
It turns out that where the cable comes up from the center of the gear shifter tube (on the automatic)and bends at the top, that the insulation on that thin cable had worn. In other words, it was shorting out.
