Should I always drive in overdrive? Overdrive improves fuel economy, and makes for less wear and tear on the vehicle when you are driving at highway speeds. Having the overdrive off is fine if you are driving in hilly areas, but if you are on the highway, it is best to have it on because you will get better gas mileage. What's the problem with my Dodge Ram transmission? HAVING PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF OVERDRIVE OR TORGUE CONVERTER DISCONNECTING. MOSTLY BETWEEN 50 AND 70 MPH. SOMETIMES RUNS 100 MILES WITHOUT A SHIFT, OTHER TIMES HAPPENS CONSTANTLY....
